Department of Forensic Medicine

Department of forensic medicine is situated in the ground floor (room number: 42) of Nick Simon building. The department includes an autopsy room and a clinical examination room.

Forensic medicine deals with the legal aspects encountered in the practice of medicine. E.g. homicide, suicide, accidents, infanticide, Anthropology, Sexual assault cases, injuries, toxicology, drunkenness examination, age estimation, crime scene visit, court visit, medicolegal consultations etc.

 OCMC (one stop crisis management centre) was established in 2075 B.S giving services (medical, medicolegal, legal, security etc) to the victim/survivor of gender based violence.

 Teaching learning activities for Undergraduates/ Post-graduation programme:

  •         Didactic schedule of lectures ( 2 hrs/week) for six months
  •         Practical classes with demonstration of weapons, poisons, bones, x-rays and specimens for better understanding of concepts of the subject for UG.
  •         Two weeks posting of PGs from the Pathology, psychiatry and GPEM departments.
  •         Clinical implementation with exposure in casualty services of the hospital with emphasis on cases of trauma, burns, sexual assault and poisoning.
  •         Observation of medico legal autopsies.
  •         Exclusive training in the field of medical ethics.
  •         Orientation about the medicolegal cases for newly enrolled medical officers.
